Boss Engira Baskaran Movie Review, Story

Fun, frolic and romance have been the playing cards of director Rajesh and his previous film ‘Siva Manasula Sakthi’ was a literal illustration. This time it’s yet another fun-blasting fiesta from the filmmaker as he keeps you occupied with laugh-riot for the next couple of hours. On the button, it’s worth making a note that Santhanam deserves all praises his monkeying comedy tracks throws you into laughter at more points.  But the biggest asset of this film is about entertaining screenplay and Santhanam’s comedy tracks. As a matter of fact, Santhanam scores brownie points capping the entire film with comedy entertainers.

The film opens with Baskaran (Arya) with a sickle in hand furiously chasing someone on the streets of Kumbakonam. The story shifts towards flashback of Baskaran, a freewheeling guy on the attempts of clearing his arrears. Bounded to extreme idleness, he spends most of the time with his friend Nalla Thambi (Santhanam), who owns a hair salon. His family members – mother (Chitra), elder brother (Subbu) and younger sister. He falls in love with Chandrika (Nayanthara), whose sister (‘Friends’ fame Vijayalakshmi) marries Baskaran’s elder brother. When he expresses his love for Chandrika, the family members turn against him for his careless lifestyle. He vows to earn more money within 6 months and arrange his youngster sister’s marriage and in turn asks them to get Chandrika married to him.

It’s surprising to see ‘Naan Kadavul’ Rajendran in a comical role. Subbu’s role as a vetinary doctor is good and Vijayalakshmi does justice to her role.

Yuvan Shankar Raja’s songs are completely disappointing. He hasn’t touched halfway of his previous combination with Rajesh in ‘Siva Manasula Sakthi’. Cinematography by Sakthi Saravanan is pleasant as he brings us eye-catching visuals while editing is simply okay.

On the whole, ‘Boss Engira Baskaran’ is a film to watch for killing your time. Don’t expect a lot from this team with ‘Siva Manasula Sakthi’ as this movie proves to be an entertainer on different genre. Make sure, you don’t presume this to be a poignant romantic tale; it’s out and most comic-drama.

It’s obvious that the film will overshadow previous week’s releases at box office and turn to be sure-footed winner for next few weeks.
